EU Supports Georgian and Romanian Agri-food Clusters to Share Experiences on Study Tour

On 24-28 July 2023, with EU support, a delegation representing the Oni Food Industry Cluster, Oni Municipality City Hall, and PMC Research visited Cluj-Napoca, Romania, to exchange experiences with the AgroTransilvania Cluster. The study tour was part of the EU-funded project “Economic Development of Oni Municipality via Business Cluster Creation and Investment Attraction.”

Furthermore, during the tour, Oni Food Industry Cluster members and officials of Oni Municipality City Hall met with representatives of the AgroTransilvania Cluster. Here, the latter shared experiences regarding institutional development, services provided to members, projects implemented, and stakeholder cooperation (public, private, and educational). Moreover, the Georgian delegation also visited honey and meat processing enterprises, observing how their agrifood products are made. Meanwhile, local officials from the City Hall of Cluj-Napoca underlined the importance of public-private cooperation and the cluster’s role in SME development. Finally, members of the Oni AgroTransilvania clusters staged a joint fair, where their members’ agri-food products were presented.

Ultimately, with the support of the EU, the Georgian delegation acquired valuable knowledge and experience from their Romanian counterparts. Looking ahead, this will strengthen the Oni Food Industry Cluster further and enhance local economic development.

The project “Economic Development of Oni Municipality via Business Clusters Creation and Investment Attraction” is being implemented under the European Union (EU) initiative “Mayors for Economic Growth” and aims to increase the economic competitiveness of Oni Municipality by creating and developing business clusters and making it more visible and attractive for potential investors. The EU-funded project’s anticipated impact is an improvement in the social and economic conditions in the Oni Municipality expressed in the operation of more competitive MSMEs, as well as increased employment and investments.
