A delegation of Moldovan business leaders concluded a two-day visit to Brussels, meeting with senior European Union officials to explore expanded trade and investment opportunities as Moldova continues its EU integration process. The high-profile visit, supported by EU4Business, took place on September 15-16 and included meetings across multiple EU institutions.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos met with entrepreneurs to discuss Moldova's EU agenda and the role of the local business development in the country's European integration. The entrepreneurs were welcomed by the Director-General of DG ENEST Gert Jan Koopman, in cooperation with the Moldovan Mission to the European Union led by Ambassador Daniela Morari.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos emphasised: “By welcoming Moldovan entrepreneurs here in Brussels, the EU is showing its strong commitment to supporting Moldova on its EU path. Integration is not only about governments, but also about the business community. This visit allows us to exchange ideas, highlight the many EU programmes available, and ensure that Moldova’s private sector is ready to seize the opportunities of deeper integration with the European market.”
Gert Jan Koopman, the Director-General of DG ENEST added: “The private sector and entrepreneurs play a key role in Moldova's economy and its successful EU integration. Their presence here in Brussels demonstrates their commitment to Moldova’s EU path and gives them the opportunity to explore how the EU can support them, from investment opportunities to programmes tailored for SMEs. For Moldova’s integration to succeed, the active involvement and dedication of entrepreneurs like them is essential, and we hope this visit will inspire fruitful exchanges and lasting cooperation.”
The Brussels visit came shortly after the European Commission’s September 4 announcement of an additional €18.9 million in support for the Republic of Moldova through the Reform and Growth Facility.
During the two days, the 40 entrepreneurs held substantive discussions with representatives from the European Commission's trade, agriculture, and growth directorates. The programme featured presentations on Moldova's €1.9 billion Growth Plan, investment opportunities, and access to EU financing mechanisms. Entrepreneurs also learned about the Access2Markets digital platform, which helps exporters navigate EU tariffs and trade regulations.
At the European Parliament, the delegation met with MEP Siegfried Muresan and toured the legislative chambers, while also engaging with CEFTA trade experts to discuss regional commerce opportunities.
Reflecting on the experience, Valentina Uzun from Azamet Grup Ltd in Gagauzia said: “These are not just political promises – they are real tools for business transformation.” She noted that many Moldovan entrepreneurs have already created new jobs, expanded exports to the EU, or transitioned to digital operations thanks to European support.
The delegation received firsthand information about reform initiatives that are already opening up opportunities for Moldovan companies, including the simplification of administrative procedures, reduction of duties and barriers, expansion of the EU-Moldova Free Trade Area, and integration into the EU's payment and telecommunications infrastructure.
Moldova has been a candidate country for EU membership since June 2022 and continues to implement reforms aligned with European standards across multiple sectors.
The visit highlighted both the EU’s continued commitment and the readiness of Moldovan entrepreneurs to contribute to the country’s European future.
