A modern digital dental laboratory in Moldova is growing, and attracting more and more clients, aiming to expand at home and into neighbouring markets abroad.
Rostislav Marcisin is a dentist in a dental clinic in Cahul and the founder of the Fordent dental laboratory business.
The Fordent Centre is the first digital laboratory of its kind in Cahul, in the south-west of Moldova. The business focuses of dental imaging and the manufacture of dental and medical parts and devices. The business was launched in 2020 and was born of the need for a professional technical-dental laboratory.
“The business was officially launched in 2020. Where did the idea come from? Most likely because I dealt with a lack of competent personnel in the technical-dental laboratory in Cahul,” says Marcisin.
To develop his business, Marcisin decided to participate in a funding competition for entrepreneurs under the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions programme, which is financed by the European Union under its EU4Business initiative implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.
“I’m glad that under the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions programme we’re offered not only financial assistance, but also mentoring activities, and training in the field of business administration and marketing,” Marcisin says. “It’s essential to have a solid base of knowledge, which will serve as a foundation for the rest of your life.”
The EUR 25,000 assistance obtained through the programme enabled the young entrepreneur to purchase a five-axis milling machine.
This device can support the entire manufacturing cycle, so Marcisin no longer has to rely on other dental laboratories.
“Thanks to this device, I closed the manufacturing cycle,” Marcisin says. “We no longer call on secondary dental laboratories, but do the entire process of manufacturing medical devices, from A to Z.”
“More than that, we’re able to make these devices much faster that we used to.”
In the future, the entrepreneur plans to expand his activity to Galati, just across the border to the south, in neighbouring Romania.
“At the moment we’re only providing services to local dentists, but we plan to expand our services and products to Galati, Romania,” Marcisin says.
